Distracted Driving Ticket
Novice Drivers:
- Three demerit points
- Fine of $490–$1,000
- 30-day license suspension for first offence, 90-day license suspension for second offence and a license cancellation for third offence (G1, G2, M1 and M2 drivers)
- Substantial increase of car insurance rates
Fully-Licensed Drivers:
- 1st conviction: a fine between $500–$1,000 and three day license suspension
- 2nd conviction: a fine between $500–$2,000 and seven day license suspension
- 3rd or subsequent conviction: a fine between $500 and $3,000 and 30-day license suspension
Stunt Driving or Racing Tickets
50kmh over / 40kmh or more maximum less than 80kmh:
- Six demerit points
- Fine of $2,000–$10,000 and jail up to six 6 months
- Immediate 30-day licence suspension and 14 day vehicle impound
- Drivers licence suspension from 1-3 years
- Cancellation of car insurance upon conviction
- Conviction can affect your employment
Multiple Convictions:
- 2nd conviction: minimum suspension of driver’s licence of 3–10 years
- 3rd conviction: lifetime suspension that may be reduced at a later date
Speeding Ticket
- 0–15 kmh over = 0 demerit points (considered a moving violation by insurance companies)
- 16–29 kmh over = 3 demerit points
- 30–49 kmh over = 4 demerit points
- 50+ kmh over = 6 points and a 30-day license suspension (subsequent conviction 60 days, second subsequent conviction up to one year license suspension)
Careless Driving Ticket
- Six demerit points
- Fine of $490–$2,000, jail up to six months
- Immediate licence suspension (applies to G1, G2, M1, M2 drivers)
- Drivers licence suspension up to two years
- Cancellation of car insurance upon conviction
- Conviction can affect your employment
Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm or Death:
- Six demerit points
- Fines of $2,000–$50,000, jail up to two years
- Drivers licence suspension up to five years
